MokumPay is a cooperative payment network that stimulates local spending and keeps value circulating within Nieuw-West for longer. By connecting residents, entrepreneurs, buyers and social organisations, a stronger local economy emerges in which money is more often earned and spent locally.

To bring this mission to life digitally, we designed and built a website that translates a complex economic concept into an accessible and understandable user experience. The challenge lay not only in the technology, but above all in designing a platform that builds trust, speaks to different audiences and activates visitors to take part.

Built together for Nieuw-West

MokumPay emerged from a broad collaboration between entrepreneurs, social organisations and creatives from Nieuw-West. Within this occasional cooperative, Cubic Mill worked on the website, based on a considered visual style by Ruben Abels and Daniël van Breda. The pilot was further brought to life with video by William Lounsbury and Rihab el M., and strengthened by contributions from Thom van Hoek, Agnes Matthews, Soumeya Bazi and Annerieke C..

The payment network is facilitated and managed by a new cooperative, with founding directors Kyra van Hoof, Yasin Konuksever and Jan van der Borden. Together they bring together perspectives from the social domain, entrepreneurship and residents of Nieuw-West.

Challenge

MokumPay introduces an innovative way of paying, doing business and collaborating locally. Although the social impact of the concept is significant, the model requires explanation before visitors fully understand its value. The challenge was to design a digital experience that makes complex information simple, clear and accessible for residents, entrepreneurs, partners and buyers.

From complex to clear

MokumPay brings residents, entrepreneurs, buyers and social partners together in one local payment network. That makes the concept powerful, but also complex to grasp all at once. That is why we designed the website around clarity. The information is built up step by step, with clear routes for different audiences and concrete explanations of what MokumPay is, how it works and why taking part is worthwhile. This turns the website from an innovative economic model into an accessible digital experience that builds trust and activates people to take part.

Website Design

For MokumPay, we developed a website that brings together strategy, usability and activation. The information architecture is built around the different audiences, so every visitor quickly understands what MokumPay is, how it works and what benefits it offers. Through a combination of clear content structures, strong visual hierarchy and clear calls to action, a platform emerges that guides visitors step by step from first introduction to participation.

Goals

The goal of the website is to make a complex economic concept accessible and understandable for different audiences within Nieuw-West. The website not only has to explain how MokumPay works, but also build trust, encourage participation and make the power of local collaboration visible. By bringing together strategy, UX and design, a digital platform emerges that helps people directly understand the value of local money and take part in it.

UX & Information architecture

At MokumPay, usability is about more than a beautiful design. The platform involves different audiences, interests and user journeys. That is why we designed the content, navigation and page structure around the user’s questions and needs. This structure makes complex information easier to understand and helps visitors find the right information faster, without becoming overwhelmed by the subject.

Interface Design

The existing brand identity formed the starting point for the digital translation. By carefully developing the colours, typography and components, a consistent user experience emerges that aligns with MokumPay’s cooperative and social mission. The result is an interface that feels accessible, professional and trustworthy.
